Sacrament of Reconciliation.

What is Reconciliation?

Because of the sin of Adam and Eve, we are born into sin and we continue to sin.  The Sacrament of Reconciliation, sometimes called confession, is offered for those who approach the Sacrament in a genuinely, sorrowful attitude.  It consists of repentance, meaning contrition for sins and a firm purpose to sin no more in the future, confession, absolution, and reparation.  Through confession to a priest, God’s minister, our sins are forgiven. Then, God gives us His grace to help us resist future temptations.

A way to celebrate together.

When do we celebrate Reconciliation?

First, Reconciliation is typically received in the second grade after two years of preparation through the Children’s Faith Development or CCD program.  Receiving the Sacrament of the Reconciliation for the first time as an adult, is part of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults or RCIA.  After your first reconciliation, you can go as often as you like.

Vision.

Why is Reconciliation so Important?

It is true that at Baptism we are freed from all of our sins, but we fall into sin afterward, John 1:8: “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us” Baptism is our initial place for conversion, but we are called to continual conversion. (CCC 1427-1429) Only God can forgive sins! (Mark 2:5-12- Jesus heals the paralytic) Jesus gives this power to forgive sins to the apostles at the Last Supper (John 20:21-23: “binding and loosing”) and this power is passed down through Holy Orders (CCC 1441) It is through this “ministry of reconciliation” that we become new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17-20)

Reconciliation.

Thank you for Coming.

If you haven't been to Confession in a couple of months or years, have no fear, God is waiting for you

My name is Fr. Marius Sztuk, SDS and I am delighted to be working with YOU to coordinate the preparation for First Reconciliation. The beginning of the school year also marks the beginning of sacramental preparation. This year we invite the children to celebrate First Reconciliation their grade two. The home and parish carry the primary responsibility for this preparation. Enrolment celebration, parent orientation meetings, and sacramental celebrations will originate from the parish. Your involvement and your participation in the parish are crucial to your child's faith development and ultimate commitment to the Catholic faith.

The school instruction regarding the meaning of the sacraments is an essential part of the program. It supports and enhances the learning and the experiences the children encounter at home and in the parish. The readiness of your child to receive this sacrament will be decided by you in consultation with Fr. Marius. Your home preparation can begin now. While you await further communication from the parish we encourage you to bring the following points to your child's awareness:

  • The fact that she/he may be celebrating a sacrament.
  • The name of the sacrament she/he may be preparing to celebrate.
  • It is also important that as a family you consciously begin your child's preparation for the sacrament by intensifying:
    • Your regular participation in Sunday Mass.
    • Your daily morning and evening prayer.
    • Your daily efforts to imitate the life of Jesus.

Registration is currently open for First Reconciliation and First Communion. But only preparation for First Reconciliation will be available this year. Preparation for First Communion will be offered in January 2024. Your child's registration this September will be good for both Sacraments.
