Sacrament of Confirmation.

What is Confirmation?

Confirmation is the sacrament in which baptized persons receive a special grace which strengthens them for their Christian work ahead.  Confirmation is administered by the bishop.  It seals us with the Holy Spirit, increases and deepens our baptismal grace, roots us more deeply to Jesus, increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and gives us special strength of the Spirit to boldly spread and defend the faith by word and deed as true witnesses of Christ.

A way to celebrate together.

When do we celebrate Confirmation?

Confirmation is often celebrated near Easter for 7th and 8th Graders and after the Rite of Christian Initiation Classes or RCIA have been completed for adults. If you are interested in receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, please call the Parish Office for further information.

Vision.

Why is Confirmation Important?

Through Confirmation, the Holy Spirit gives them the increased ability to practice their Catholic faith in every aspect of their lives and to witness Christ in every situation. ... A closer bond with the Catholic Church.”

Confirmation.

Thank you for
taking part of.

We are delighted that you have chosen to begin your child’s Christian journey here at St. Francis De Sales Parish in High River.

The Sacrament of Confirmation completes our initiation into the Catholic faith that commenced with the Sacrament of Baptism. If Baptism is the sacrament of re-birth to a new and supernatural life, Confirmation is the sacrament of maturity and coming of age. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, God bestows an increased presence of the Holy Spirit on us so that we may work with deep faith and with abiding charity, and that we may help to bring to the world the fruits of reconciliation and peace. Strengthened by the Holy Spirit and His manifold gifts, we are committed wholeheartedly to the Church's struggle against sin.

St. Francis De Sales Parish is delighted to be working with you to coordinate the preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The home and parish carry the primary responsibility for this preparation. Enrolment celebration, parent orientation meetings, and sacramental celebrations will originate from the parish. Your involvement and your participation in the parish are crucial to your child's faith development and ultimate commitment to the Catholic faith.

The school instruction regarding the meaning of the sacraments is an essential part of the program. It supports and enhances the learning and the experiences the children encounter at home and in the parish. The readiness of your child to receive this sacrament will be decided by you in consultation with the Pastor

Your home preparation can begin now. While you await further communication from the parish we encourage you to bring the following points to your child's awareness: the fact that she/he may be celebrating a sacrament, and the name of the sacrament she/he may be preparing to celebrate. It is also important that as a family you consciously begin your child's preparation for the sacrament by intensifying your regular participation in Sunday Mass, daily morning and evening prayer. Focus on the daily effort to imitate the life of Jesus.

Next Confirmation Program will start September 2024.
