We are called

God calls each of us for a unique and meaningful purpose. As part of our Diocesan renewal, we are invited to deepen our understanding of vocations and foster a culture where every calling—priesthood, consecrated life, permanent diaconate, marriage, and lay vocations—is nurtured and celebrated.

The Vocations Rally is an opportunity to:

  • Reflect on how God is calling you
  • Discover ways to support vocations in our Diocese and families
  • Pray for and encourage future labourers for the Lord’s harvest (Matthew 9:38)

The Vocations Rally is an opportunity to reflect, celebrate, and pray for a greater response to God’s call in our Church. To register, click the link below, or call 403-218-5521.

Pentecost in Today’s World

Pentecost in Today’s World

Pentecost in Today’s World

Pentecost is often called the “birthday of the Church.” On that day, the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles with power and courage, sending them out to proclaim the Good News to the world. But Pentecost is not only an event from the past — it is a living reality for us today.

We live in a world filled with technology, busy schedules, social media, and uncertainty. Many people struggle with loneliness, division, and fear about the future. In such a world, the message of Pentecost is more important than ever.

The Holy Spirit brings what the world cannot give: peace, wisdom, courage, and hope. Before Pentecost, the apostles were afraid and hiding behind locked doors. After receiving the Holy Spirit, they became fearless witnesses of Christ. The same Spirit continues to strengthen us today in our homes, workplaces, schools, and parishes.

Pentecost also marks the final day of the Easter season. For fifty days the Church has celebrated the Resurrection of Christ with the joyful white and gold colors of Easter. Now, after Pentecost, we enter Ordinary Time, and the liturgical color changes to green — a symbol of growth, life, and spiritual renewal.

This change reminds us that faith is not only about celebrating great feasts, but also about living daily life with God. Ordinary Time is the season where we are called to grow steadily as disciples through prayer, kindness, service, and faithful living.

As we begin Ordinary Time, Pentecost reminds us that we do not walk alone. The Holy Spirit continues to guide the Church and each one of us every day.

“Come, Holy Spirit, renew the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.”

Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church

Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church

The Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church is celebrated on the Monday after Pentecost. In 2026, it falls on May 25.

Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church

This celebration was added to the universal calendar of the Catholic Church by Pope Francis in 2018. The title “Mother of the Church” reminds us that Mary is not only the Mother of Jesus, but also the spiritual mother of all Christians.

At the foot of the Cross, Jesus said to His disciple: “Behold, your mother” (John 19:27). From that moment, the Church has understood Mary as a mother who continues to care for and pray for God’s people.

Celebrated immediately after Pentecost, this memorial beautifully reminds us that as the Church was born through the power of the Holy Spirit, Mary was present among the apostles in prayer. Just as she accompanied the first disciples, she continues to accompany the Church today.

The memorial encourages Catholics to look to Mary as:

  • a model of faith and discipleship,
  • a mother of comfort and hope,
  • and an example of trusting God completely.

The liturgical color for the day is usually white, symbolizing joy, purity, and the glory of Christ reflected in Mary’s life.

Magnifica Humanitas — Pope Leo XIV’s First Encyclical

The Vatican has announced that Pope Leo XIV has completed his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas (“The Greatness of Humanity”), focused on the dignity of the human person in the age of artificial intelligence.

The document will be officially presented on May 25 at the Vatican in the presence of the Holy Father, together with Church leaders, theologians, and experts in technology and ethics.

The encyclical is being released during the 135th anniversary of Rerum Novarum, the historic social teaching document of Pope Leo XIII that defended workers and human dignity during the Industrial Revolution.

Today, Pope Leo XIV addresses new challenges brought by artificial intelligence and rapid technological development. The encyclical is expected to reflect on how technology can serve humanity while protecting truth, freedom, and the sacred dignity of every person created in the image of God.

Magnifica Humanitas is expected to become an important Catholic voice on faith, ethics, and human dignity in the digital age.
